2005 Edition

2005 edition In this edition of the Prize the Jury decided to give a First Prize and two Special Mentions. The Ernesto Mistretta "Countryside house" (Located in Trapani, Italy) was awarded first prize.

The transformability is the main topic of this unpretentious country house. The big sliding walls and the external mobile roofing offer a great variety of possible configurations. An introverted house closed in itself that suddenly opens in total harmony with the landscape. Sliding doors that are also projection screens visible from every corner of the house, barriers against the strong wind of Sicily, as well as filters against the prying eyes of the people passing by.

The image is an horizontal architecture with a dark skin outside and a white skin inside. The relation interior/exterior has been practically inverted: all the doors open towards the courtyards that can be covered during the hottest or rainy days. In the middle of this architecture lies the design of the limits of the empty spaces (the courtyards), the way to give it an atmosphere, a soul.
